Reputation: 3, It would help others if you made a guide on how you did this. Help is free when you push them. Forscan is good for it. This is how to remap using IDS. This is based on my experience Ford Transit Custom 2. Now, the reference vehicle should be of similar spec to yours. To minimise any issues I made sure the following components are the same before trying to program its calibrations to mine: - injectors - turbo - pcm HW All of the part numbers can be checked in ECAT for your vehicle and the referenced one.
You will need VIN to do so. My reference vehicle was 1 serial number below my VIN Once you happy with your reference vehicle - we can move on and find the calibration numbers for it. This procedure is usually done at a new car dealership, but with the right software and tools independent repair shops or even individuals can reprogram their PCM Powertrain Control Modules PCMs and other onboard electronics.
Environmental Protection Agency regulations require original equipment manufacturers to make emissions-related onboard diagnostic service information available to the aftermarket via their technical websites, including updates on reprogramming vehicle modules. The flash reprogramming procedures must conform to SAE J standards, which allow the use of aftermarket scan tools or similar pass-through devices in addition to the factory scan tool.
EPA rules require auto makers to post all of their text-based service and training information on the internet so anyone can access it, and at reasonable cost.

One is when a vehicle sets false trouble codes. The original factory programing may be overly sensitive or not take into account wear or other factors that may affect the operation of certain sensors or the OBD II monitors.
PCM Reprogramming is also necessary to change the engine idle speed, spark timing, fuel mixture or other emission control functions. PCM Reprogramming may be required to resolve a hot or cold starting issue, idle roughness, stalling, or an emissions failure. Reprogramming is often used to modify the operation of emission functions so they have less of an effect on drivability.
PCM Reprogramming may be necessary to smooth out or change the shift characteristics of an automatic transmission.
It may also be used to modify the operation of the ABS, traction control or stability control systems, to change steering feel on vehicles with variable assist steering, and to change the ride characteristics on vehicles with electronic ride control.
If a PCM, TCM, BCM or other control module is being replaced on a vehicle, reprogramming may be required to calibrate the new module to that particular vehicle unless it has been preflashed by the OEM or module supplier.
Also, additional learning procedures may be required to "initialize" the module so it will function properly. One thing reprogramming cannot do is fix mechanical problems like vacuum leaks, dirty fuel injectors, worn spark plugs, piston rings or bearings. If an engine or other component has a mechanical problem, these need to be diagnosed and ruled out or repaired before reprogramming is considered as a repair possibility.
Reprogramming is also a trick that many tuners use to enhance engine performance and dial-in more horsepower. Reprogramming can change spark timing, fuel enrichment and boost pressure on turbocharged and supercharged engines to make more power.
Reprogramming is usually required after installing an aftermarket performance cam, bigger cylinder heads, a different intake manifold or fuel induction system to compensate for changes in airflow. Many performance chips on the market claim to remap engine timing by altering sensor readings sent to the ECU, but a professional tune is still highly recommended for these chips as well, when used in conjunction with other aftermarket parts.
This type of reprogramming, however, requires a special aftermarket tuner scan toolas well as software that is not provided or approved by the vehicle manufacturer. These integrated circuit chips were plugged into the module main circuit board, and could only be programmed once. If the instructions needed to be changed or updated for any reason, the PROM chip had to be physically removed from the module and replaced with a newer version.
For performance tuning, the original PROM chip could be replaced with an aftermarket performance PROM chip that provided more spark advance and fuel enrichment under certain driving conditions. But on vehicles that lacked a PROM chip, this was not possible. Caution: PROM chip can be easily damaged by mishandling. Static electricity can zap the chip's memory, and the little prongs that plugged into the circuit board can be easily bent or broken. If you are replacing a PROM chip, you should wear an anti-static wrist ground strap and take precautions to minimize the risk of a static discharge.
This chip had a little window on it that allowed the chip to be reprogrammed with new instructions when it was exposed to a bright ultraviolet UV lamp. It could be reprogrammed by applying a higher than normal voltage. This told the chip to accept new instructions so new information could overwrite the old information on the chip. The updated software for reprogramming the vehicle comes from the vehicle manufacturer. The software may be downloaded from their website which requires a broadband, DSL or faster connection, not a simple dial-up connectionor it may be supplied via CD or DVD after paying their subscription fee.
With few exceptions, the software is NOT free. A subscription fee or access fee must be paid to obtain the software. And to install it, you need a scan tool with reprogramming capability, or a J or J PassThru tool. The first step is to determine whether or not any updates are available for a particular vehicle, and if so whether or not such an update might be needed to solve a particular problem.It controls the fuel mixture, ignition timing, variable cam timing and emissions control.

However, Ford does do one thing differently than most other OEMs. A complication arises when you are attempting to replace an ECU that is dead or not communicating with the scan tool or programming device. In this instance, you are going to have to use a different method of telling the replacement ECU what the needed As Built data information should be.
This As Built data is actually multiple lines of hexadecimal numbers entered into dialogue boxes in the programming software. All we need do is tell a little white lie to the scan tool or programming device! Leave the ignition key in the OFF position. The programming software will show a status bar for 45 seconds while it attempts communication with the vehicle. Of course, the communication attempt will fail because the key is off!
It will then ask you to turn the key off and on again as it again attempts to communicate with the vehicle. After this process completes the software will ask you if you want to make another attempt.
Choose no to this query. You are then asked to choose from a list of vehicles to communicate with. The software will explain that you must provide some numbers from the actual ID label on the old PCM in order for the software to identify the vehicle you intend to communicate with. You need only use one of these data fields to get the job done.
I use the Tear Tag number because it is the easiest. The next screen shown will ask you to enter the VIN and mileage. Once the vehicle is properly identified as shown in Figure 3, you can use the normal PCM replace and program procedure.
You may be asked to provide a couple of other pieces of information like tire size or whether the vehicle has four-wheel drive or not.
You also might need to perform a reset or relearn of the PATS vehicle security system if the vehicle is so equipped. This might require the presence of two transponder type security keys depending on the system the vehicle is equipped with.

Hope there is a tech who can help, im trying to reprogramme the PCM on my Focus with the As Built data reason when i try to do a new install it fails and tells me to do a PMI. Can anyone shed light on this and how i do it. Nevertheless there is an alternative method to program the PCM which possibly works. This alternative method is described on the following website:.

My experience is that only the more expensive Chinese clones are a direct copy of the original Ford Rotunda VCM and have the same abilities as the original. The configuration settings of the PCM must be selected manually.
How to use Ford IDS for ECU programming online
If all settings are correct they can be written to the PCM. With the ELMconfig software you can also select the correct firmware file for your type of engine and write that firmware to the PCM. Finally got the modified elm have tried elmconfig today went to configuration in the PCM manually entered all the data but how do you write this data to the PCM, i see on the next tab there is a update firmware tab but this isnt highlighted nor is the write to PCM tab in this section.

Then 2. The theft hand stays on the dash but again this is most likely just the vin miss-match?
You may be able to do it with a full flash, but it will cost you 2 more credits. Yeah I did a write entire, but it still kept the original vin, I think it may be possible with later 2.
At this time we have no plans to add vin changing for fords. Additionally on the newer ford pcm's the vin isn't written during the write entire process its not in the flash or something to that effect similar to 98 ls1 pcm's for instance If you are looking to change vin's you'll likely need to look elsewhere when it comes to fords. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks A wise man once said "google it".
Well that settles that, so what is the best option to change vin on ford controllers as they have to all be the same for the factory system to operate correctly AFAIK. Ford dealer flash tool I would assume have this sort of capability.
I have changed the vin in 2. It did work but saying that I haven't tried the 2. Interesting do u know what release of 2. After I performed the re-link with a snap-on which allowed the car to start with one key programmed to BEM,????? I could not get the speedo to work, throwing the car into limp mode I'm pretty sure the VID block was not correct for this vehicle. Anyone else replaced a turbo pcm with an NA pcm have this issue??
